It's a bit unfortunate that so many anime typically stick with a single outfit for each cast member. Animators are artistically inclined by trade and as such can churn out some great -- and at worst, "creative" -- fashion design. The crew at Satelight more than did their job with Shugo Chara, a series loaded with unique outfits.
Hinamori Amu, the lead of Shugo Chara, has been fashioned by her own mother as what the series terms "goth punk." Maybe the Japanese style "gothic lolita" would be a closer description? Either way, her clothes come off more as being influenced by -- and less of a direct example of -- said style.
Let's start off with the oh-so-typical school uniform, which Amu finds a way to wear more creatively than any other character in the show.
Next, what truly boggles the mind is the sheer amount of different sets of casual clothes Amu wears throughout the first season.
Of course, what anime would be complete without a few special occasion outfits, most notably the yukata.
And a post on Amu's fashion wouldn't be complete without a look at all of her character transformations. They are the most important set of clothes a magical girl needs to pick out.
And finally, my personal favorite of the entire show. Now this is "gothic lolita!"

It took a while to do, but that was probably because it was my first time doing a post like this. I think I have the procedure down now! Hopefully season 2 will have just as many outfit changes.

After watching the newest opening, I was eager to look for Amu's outfits! XD I love Amu's style, especially the different stockings she wears. Casual and Lolita looks the best! :]

Much appreciated. Barring any change of plans, at the end of season 2 I'll go back through it and put together another post with all the new outfits.
Actually, I plan to do it with a few more series too, once I get off my ass and get back into the habit of posting to this blog again.

Awesome. That gets me thinking: when I do season 2, I should include all of season 1 (in a separate "show content" section, of course) and make the post itself into one giant poll, with an answer option for each individual outfit. I don't know if it's a good thing or a bad thing that I'm really interested in what the results might be. Let's just call it curiosity.
Oh, and if I missed any outfits, anyone, please let me know.

The very last picture is taken from episode 33, as Amu is trying on a few different outfits in anticipation of going out shopping (an unofficial date) with Tadase. The design came from the cover picture for chapter 20 from the original manga.

You forgot an outfit from ep 47. Near the end,Amu wears a blu-ish outfit while hearing Utau sing. she is standing next to Sanjou.
But other than that, lovely! This is a really useful for an Amu wannabe like me. XD lol

wow! i love amu's outfits and was wanting to see the WHOLE of her wardrobe and now i can! thx!!! and she has a LOT of clothes! but i love that about her. and i love all the clothes she wears as well - they are sooo cool!!! thx again

And I'm sure she's got even more clothes in store for us too! In fact, it's about time I got caught up on season 2. Whenever I finish watching that, I'll do another post for all of the second season outfits.

It really hinges on when I decide to watch season 2. I put Shugo Chara on hold after 1 wrapped up, as I had caught up to airing and didn't want to watch it weekly. Now that it's finished, I'll probably get around to it once I make my way through some of the other shows currently in my pipeline.
At that time, I'm pretty sure to make a post for those outfits, even if I'm not blogging regularly by then. I think it would still be pretty cool to do.
